ABOUT TRANSITMETER

Evidence for the
trip you actually take.

TransitMeter is an independent data project translating transit operations into clear, route-level reliability reports.

Most transit tools answer “When is the next vehicle?” TransitMeter asks a different question: “How much confidence should I place in this service?”

We build that answer from repeated observations, published schedules and transparent rules. The goal is useful context for riders, journalists, researchers and public agencies—not a single unexplained ranking.

Boston rail is the first release. Additional modes and cities will be added only when their source data can support comparable, honest measurements.

01

Show the denominator

Every report includes its dates, trips and observation count.

02

Separate pattern from cause

Operational data can show what happened. Explaining why requires additional evidence.

03

Publish the method

Thresholds, weights and exclusions belong in public view.

04

Earn expansion

A new city launches when its data is good enough—not when another thin page can be generated.
